Solar Probe Brooch

This piece is fashioned from copper colored using a special patina process. It has a standard pin finding on the back. The piece was first sandblasted, then darkened using a liver of sulfur patina, then layers of dye-oxide patina were added with heat. The piece was sealed with lacquer and wax. While the coating is quite durable, it can be abraded or scratched. This brooch should not be left in very hot temperatures or submerged in hot water or lacquer thinner. It can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe, on a seven year mission to ‘touch the sun’, was the first spacecraft to fly through the Sun’s upper atmosphere or corona. It is collecting data to help us understand the origin and evolution of solar wind.
