This piece depicts the inside of a particle accelerator and includes a brooch, which is attached to the base with magnets, which can also be used to secure it to a piece of clothing. It is made of enamel on copper, steel, bass, silver, 24K gold foil, and watch gears.
Physicists use particle accelerators to create collisions between subatomic particles and investigate the nature and structure of the universe at the smallest scale. The resulting particles and particle traces are quite beautiful, as are the machines themselves.
The base is 6 inches in diameter and the brooch measures. 5 1/4 inches by 2 12 inches wide at its widest.
